Evaluation women´s toilet in Komtar Building (Ground Floor near Starbucks)

  • Costs? 0.20 RM
  • selling Tissues? yes, 0.30 RM
  • Cleanliness? 3 of 5 Stars
  • Type? Western & Asian
  • Toilet shower? yes
  • Soap on tap? no
  • hand drying? electric hand dryer
This high-frequented public toilet is not the best example how a toilet in a public building should look like. Although they take money for it, it´s not really clean.

If you live in Penang, you´ll probably end up there, sooner or later ;) What are your experiences with this toilet?

  1. I wonder what they use the money for...?! Maybe Komtar doesn't have money to pay the toilet staff, so that's why they charge 30 cents? hmmm..

  2. The 30-cts charges are actually collected and meant for the Komtar management to engage workers to clean and maintain the toilets. It's extra revenue for the management. The trouble is, they charge extras but no extra works had been done!

It seems the toilets have been commercialized as commodities rather than a public amenity nowadays, even in Vietnam, when you patronize the toilet, there will be a counter manned to collect nominal fees of 20-30 cts., Same as here. Can we consider this as the international 'toilet culture'?!
